Recently, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium became the number one zoo in the nation for the second year in a row. Not only did the zoo become the number one in the nation but the Desert Dome also became the number one zoo exhibit in the nation. The Wildlife Safari Park became the number one safari park in the nation as well.
Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo is one of the best in the nation because of the wide variety of exhibits, the different programs, and the goal for conservation. Over the years, the zoo has expanded their exhibits. This has allowed the zoo to have many diverse animals from around the world. This vast diversity makes the zoo a fun and interactive place to go and explore. There are also many different programs including day camps, campouts, classes, and others. These have allowed the zoo to broaden their horizons and people to be more involved. Lastly, the goal of conservation can be seen in every area of the zoo. The definition of conservation is the prevention of a wasteful use of a resource. This can be seen through the recycling bins placed throughout the zoo and the enrichment or toys made for the animals which are made from recycled materials.
This year the staple of Omaha, the Desert Dome came out on top with the number one zoo exhibit in the nation. When driving into Omaha on the interstate it is always one of the first pieces of land that one will see. The Desert Dome is the world’s largest indoor desert. What makes it so impressive is the triangle glass pieces that make up the dome. The Desert Dome features plants and animals from three different deserts located around the world.
The Wildlife Safari Park was voted the number one Safari Park in the nation because of the fascinating four mile long ride through nature where one can see the vast diversity of different animals in their natural habitats. There are also many events that take place at the Safari Park, along with classes, camps, and campouts as well which has made the attraction a popular one.
Overall, the first place win of all three places was well deserved. The zoo has worked hard, going above and beyond, to make it a safe and fun place to learn, play and see diverse animals. The Desert Dome opened in April of 2002, almost twenty-two years ago, and is still one of the best exhibits in the nation. Finally, the Wildlife Safari Park is a fun, interactive experience where one can see the wild animals, including elk, deer, and so much more. All three provide the opportunity to learn and have fun at the same time.
