Where the Boy Aren’t

Imagine a home, a lot bigger than your home, but a home where everyone is comfortable to share their thoughts and a place where everyone feels comfortable and is ready to learn. This is the atmosphere of an all-girls school.

An all-girls school has more than a comfortable atmosphere, it has many benefits. One of these benefits is “when children learn with single-gender peers, they are more likely to attend to their studies, speak more openly in the classroom, and feel more encouraged to pursue their interests and achieve their fullest potential,” according to Katherine van Wormer. When in an all-girls school, girls are more comfortable to answer questions and pay attention in class. Another benefit, according to Mercy administrator Ms. McCoy, “An all-girl environment allows a young lady the freedom to express herself, learn in a strong academic environment and be a part of a caring community.” This quote explains what it feels like going to an all-girls school.

There are many reasons why I chose Mercy for high school. One of these reasons was the show choir camp for middle school girls. When I went to this camp the girls were very connected and seemed happy to be there. That is the reason I chose Mercy to begin my high school journey.  I like going to Mercy because of all the wonderful opportunities that we offer. After going to the show choir camp, I decided to try out, and I made it! Now, the show choir group is like a family to me. This is the reason why I love going to Mercy.

Same gender schools boost confidence and make them strive as students. All of these reasons lead to the comfortable and homey atmosphere of all-girls schools. This is the reasons why girls might prefer a school “where the boys aren’t”.
