Buzz! The sound of the timer ending the game resulted in a victory for the Monarchs. The rivalry between Mercy and Gross was challenged at the January 12th basketball game. Mercy was victorious last year at Pack the House and wanted to win again. Mercy students showed up to support the Monarchs who won 52-45. Mercy beat Gross in their own gym and brought a student section bigger than most home games.
The game started out with the Monarchs leading most of the first half. With several successful 3 point shots. The free throw shots also helped the Monarchs to continue their lead. In the end the Monarchs were able to hang on to their lead and end with a victory.
Throughout the game, Mercy cheerleaders led the crowd. They stunted and made sure the student body was cheering on the team. Many popular cheers encouraged the student section to yell loudly. The cheerleaders had white bows and face paint to join the student section theme, “white out.”
The Mercy student section was full with lots of spirit. According to junior Sydney Malesker,“A lot of Mercy people showed up and made the game more fun and exciting”. The whole student section dressed in “white out”. The student section was led by the Monarch Maniacs and seniors, but all grade levels showed up to support the Monarchs.
At the end of the game the Mercy student section erupted in excitement with the victory over the Cougars.
