The Heart of Omaha

Mural as you enter Morton Meadows

As you enter the state of Nebraska there is always a sign that reads, “The Good Life”. The funny thing about this sign is it’s the truth. From living in the grand city of Omaha my whole life, I have had nothing but a stellar time. I currently reside in the neighborhood Morton Meadows, and in my opinion Morton Meadows is the heart of east Omaha. Now, I have not lived in Morton Meadows my whole life, but quite frankly life before living here was a blur. I was in 5th grade when I packed up all of my belongings and left my past house. Lets just say nothing about that move was bittersweet. I have never been around such a close knit community before. Nobody is a stranger, everyone is a friend. This only gets better when you make your way downtown. This might sound weird and I don’t blame you if you want to stop reading, but the smell of downtown is something I can only try to put into words. The one word that comes to my head is “home”. How could anyone not love this place? As much as Omaha natives claim that Nebraska is boring, once they leave they always find their way back. How could you leave the precious zoo or the fun memories at the College Word Series? In the words of Hannah Montana, “You can change you hair and you can change your clothes…you can say goodbye or you can say hello, but you’ll always find your way back home…” and my home is east Omaha.
