October 4-6 Preview

With so many different activities, clubs, and sports here at Mercy, the days are usually filled with various events. An updated calendar that lists these events is located on The Flutter; a Mercy website directed to keeping parents in the loop. The NHS/Holy Cross blood drive, cross country races, Alumnae Volleyball Night, Mercy Mentoring, and district softball are just a few of the events that are occurring in the next couple of days. Make sure to stay updated and support your favorite Mercy Monarchs!

On Saturday October 6, Mercy’s National Honors Society is partnering with Holy Cross and the American Red Cross to sponsor a blood drive. Located at Holy Cross, this event is expected to bring in many donors. Stay tuned into Tea Time for Emily Erlbacher’s live broadcast of this event on Saturday.

Make sure to show some love to Mercy’s cross country team! Their conference meet is taking place on Thursday, October 4. This meet will precede districts and state that will happen later this month. If you are not able to attend these events, be on the lookout for Claire Fink’s upcoming broadcast of the runners and coaches before and during the conference meet!

Alumnae Night at Volleyball is on Friday, October 5. This is a night where all Mercy alums are invited to come support the volleyball team and have a mini “reunion”. At this event, Operation Others will be doing split the pot to raise money for people in need. Stay tuned to see a broadcast created by Emilee Baker about the night. There will be interviews, footage of the game, and much more!

The juniors have recently been assigned to their Mercy Mentors. These mentors are nuns who help the juniors to learn about the critical concerns of the Sisters of Mercy and they discuss how to make a difference/help with these problems. They talk about a wide variety of things ranging from human trafficking all the way to caring for the earth. They met with their mentors for the first time on Tuesday, October 2 and got to know each other over ice cream in Franey Hall. This is a tradition that has been going on for many years that the students and the mentors love.

District softball is taking place at Ralston High School on Thursday. The varsity softball team will get out of school at 10:15 am on this day and head to the fields. The girls have had a fun and productive season so far and plan to start the day off with a win. Coach Maddigan, Coach Jessie, and Coach Ally, as well as the players, have been putting in a lot of hard work to get prepared for districts. If the girls make it past the first day of districts, they will advance to the second day and play on Friday.

Mercy High School is not just a place where its students go to class and then right home again in a boring routine, day after day. It has many opportunities to get involved, make lasting memories, and contribute to our community. Both the students and the staff are always welcome to join different clubs and activities to keep their days exciting and new. There’s never a dull moment at Mercy so make sure to stay updated about these events through The Flutter and Tea Time.
