Emma Caito, a senior at Mercy High School, has had the honor of signing to Minnesota State University Moorhead. She has made the decision to sign for soccer starting in the fall of 2021. Emma has been playing soccer since she was four years and currently plays central left side defender for the Mercy Monarchs. She has helped the Monarchs to their present record of two wins and only one loss.
At age seven, Emma started playing for a club called Toro. Toro is now known as Elkhorn Soccer Club. After that, she switched and continued to play for Gretna and has played with them ever since.
Emma says that her favorite thing about soccer is meeting new people and is grateful for the relationships that soccer has brought her. She has made lifelong connections with people all over the state. This is due to the fact that her club includes a variety of girls! Emma is excited for her opportunity to play in Minnesota. She will be able to meet new people and make strong bonds with her future teammates.
To conclude, I asked Emma to give advice to future soccer players and Mercy girls and she said, “Some advice I would give to future mercy girls who are wanting to play soccer, and soccer girls in general, is to put yourself out there and introduce yourself to your teammates. Whether it’s a new team that you’re playing on, or if it’s the same one with new girls, having a strong connection with the people you’re playing with will benefit not just your entire team as a whole, but will also help you trust each other on the field. I would also say to just have fun while playing the sport and always have the confidence of winning and playing your position to the best of your ability.”
The rest of the school and I wish Emma good luck in her future endeavors!
