Many students make plans during the last months of school for summer. Usually the plans end up being a bust, or just not happening at all. Summer pool parties become sleepovers with one or two friends. Road trips turn into you staying home on your phone being bored. So here are some things to do over the summer to keep it fun!
Many people in Omaha have heard of Maha. Maha is a large concert held at Stinson Park. Many well known artists play there. This year one of Mercy’s theater teacher, Mr. Von Kampen, is playing drums in his band “Bach Mai!” Maha has many different people playing including Omaha Girls Rock and Louder Than A Bomb.
Omaha Girls Rock is a great way to get your volunteer hours in and have fun while doing it. It is a non-profit organization that empowers young girls ranging from the ages 4-16. Omaha Girls Rock has many week long camps over the summer when you can volunteer. During the camps you get to learn about famous female artists, create a band, write a song and perform it for everyone, including parents, at the Holland Center and Slowdown in downtown Omaha.
Another place you can go to is the Henry Dooley Zoo and Aquarium. These past years the zoo has been adding new activities such as giraffe feeding. You have the chance of going and feeding the giraffes leaves and being able to experience them up close. In the months coming up the zoo is expecting a new addition to the family, a baby giraffe. Over the summer the zoo has special activities, summer camps, job positions and many cool things to do such as spending the night in cabins.
Don’t waste your summer on your bed being bored. Go out and have fun and take advantage of your opportunities!
