Unpacking “Pack the House”

Over the three day weekend, Monarchs celebrated the annual spirited tradition of Pack the House. Friday night the Monarchs faced the rivaled Duchesne Cardinals, making for an even more rambunctious packed house.

Besides cheering on the Monarchs, students and spectators participated in the Student Council sponsored raffle and split the pot. All proceeds from the raffle go directly towards Student Council’s school wide mission of supporting Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

Student Council Moderator, Ms. Marcuccio explained, “Pack the House was very successful! We collected about $100 more this year than last. Thanks to our generous faculty, we are able to offer awesome raffle prizes that people love to bid on”.

Moving from the amazing prizes on the Mez, the students truly packed the house in the bleachers. Girls were decked out in paint, wigs, glitter, all in blue and gold of course, to support their Monarchs. The girls truly brought the spirit with the direction of the loud and proud cheerleaders and dance team. All grades were represented with strong spirit in the student section. Parents and visitors were likely to see girls snapping selfies and walking away with many raffle prizes.

I asked my Mercy little sister Meredith Engel if she had any expectations for Pack the House as a freshman. She expressed that her first Pack the House was such a great time to be around her friends. She even noted how fun it was to participate in the fundraising opportunity and to especially see some of her teachers outside of school cheering on the Monarchs. And as for her expectations from a freshman view she stated, “I didn’t have any expectations except for the fact that it would simply just be a great experience.”

Although the Monarchs could not come away with the win that night, it was certain that the students “packed the house” in true Mercy spirit.
